How To Tap Into Your Inner Wisdom!

What Is Your Inner Wisdom?

You may not be able to fully articulate what your inner wisdom is, but I bet you have tons of it.

No, I’m not suggesting we go all mystic and Wicca here (although feel free if you want to). You don’t need a crystal ball to access your inner wisdom. Just a bit of patience and practice.

For inner wisdom think intuition.

Dictionary Definition: the ability to understand something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning.

Using Inner Wisdom at Work

If you work in the average workplace you’re probably not comfortable talking about using your intuition in work decisions.

Most of us still work in environments, within cultures, that were designed by men. These workplaces still favour, albeit subconsciously, male ways of working. Which is not say that men don’t have intuition, probably that they have not been encouraged to use it. Talking about ‘feeling’ something is usually frowned upon. Or seen as unprofessional.

Work Has To Be Rational – Really?

Most work environments do not encourage expressing feelings. Do you remember the furore when Rachel Reeves was ‘caught’ (the language speaks volumes) crying in the House? How she was lampooned and denigrated. Being rational is fine for lots of things. But sometimes simply being rational doesn’t give us the answer we need or want. In those cases just try tapping into your inner wisdom. Allow your intuition to hold sway.

Tapping Into Your Inner Wisdom

If you try this regularly it will become easier to do. Allow yourself to think what you really want to do in any difficult situation. Listen to your inner wisdom. It may mean cutting yourself off from the general hum for a few minutes. Taking some of time to stop and think, how do I feel about this? You can have a whole load of ticked boxes in the plus column but if it feels wrong… It’s probably wrong.

A Key Question

I used to regularly counsel women who were considering a major, but optional, surgical procedure. It was for an abortion. By any standards this is a major life decision. My role was to help them get at the right solution for them. It was most definitely not to guide them in any particular direction. By the time they got to see me they had usually decided but the counselling was mandatory. Often they would give me a rational, well thought out argument for their decision. Then I would ask them:

“What were your very first thoughts; what was your instinctive response before you began to intellectualise and rationalise it?”

Sometimes the answers were the same, sometimes not. Occasionally women changed their minds when they thought about their first response. It’s a sweeping generalisation, but those that followed their ‘gut’ seemed more at peace with their decision.

So, next time you have a difficult decision to make, listen to your inner voice, your inner wisdom. It’s giving you some valuable information.

Newsflash – Coaching for Charity!

I am offering coaching sessions, one off, for an hour, at £50 a session. On any topic. Every single penny is going to charity. Two special charities in particular. The money doesn’t come to me but direct to the charities.

I mentioned above that my husband has Parkinsons’s Disease. If you a regular newsletter reader you’ll know that we’ve had a tricky few years. (I am rarely understated but I am here… It’s been hell.) A constant source of support has been The Firefighters Charity. I just can’t tell you how wonderful they are and if I tried I’d probably start blubbing everywhere. None of us want that…

Equally, over the last few months I have come to know the work of the wonder that is Parkinson’s UK. Amongst other things they invest in support for patients and research into this cruel disease. There is currently no cure. But I am optimistic that there will be! They just need a little help from their friends…

If you have ever thought coaching might be helpful now’s your time to try it out. I am offering a one hour virtual session at £50. To take advantage of this just let me know you’re interested via email, jane@changingpeople.co.uk. No obligation. If you choose to go ahead, you’ll get a link to the two JustGiving Pages :The Firefighters Charity and Parkinson’s UK. Ideally I’d love you to share the fee equally between the two but I appreciate that might be a pain. Once you’ve paid, you let me know and we book in our session to suit you!
