How To Do Good For Yourself And For Others

Read on for a great way to do good for yourselves and also help others. It’s really win win.

My husband, a retired firefighter, has Parkinsons’s Disease. If you a regular newsletter reader you’ll know that we’ve had a tricky few years. (I am rarely understated but I am here… It’s been hell.)

He’s had depression and anxiety for decades . Over the last few years it has deepened with barely any respite at all. A constant source of support has been The Firefighters Charity . I just can’t tell you how wonderful they are and if I tried I’d probably start blubbing everywhere. None of us want that… They have been amazing.

Parkinson’s UK

Then, late in 2024 my husband received a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease. It was a shock. However, in a weird way, it was also a blessing because finally it might explain why literally nothing has worked. To date we’re still trying to find the right combination of treatment and he is still very ill and depressed.

Parkinson’s UK was recommended to us so I joined and avidly read their website. It’s jam packed with helpful information. Do check out Parkinson’s UK. Amongst other things they invest in support for patients and research into this cruel disease.

Recently, after a very unhelpful session with the psychiatrist, I hit rock bottom. In despair, I called the Parkinson’s UK helpline. It was the first time I’ve ever called a helpline. They were incredible and so helpful. Kind, supportive, pragmatic and practical. I felt held and safe at a time of great distress. Amazingly, they kept in touch until the crisis had passed.

There is currently no cure for P.D. But I am optimistic that there will be! There is a lot of really excellent research happening. They just need a little help from their friends… which is where you can help.

Giving Back – Do Good

I really wanted to give something back. However, running a business and being a full time carer doesn’t leave much time. So I decided to use my business as my fundraiser.

I coach all over the world. As long as we can do it in English and make the time zones work, I’m there. I have set up two fundraising pages which means I don’t get involved with the money at all. I coach, you donate! Every single penny or cent you donate goes to charity.

If you have ever thought coaching might be helpful now’s your time to try it out. Or maybe you’ve had coaching with me before and would like a refresher. I am offering a one hour virtual session for a suggested donation of only £50. (Or whatever you can afford.)

To take advantage of this just let me know you’re interested via email jane@changingpeople.co.uk. No obligation. If you choose to go ahead, you’ll get these links to the two JustGiving Pages. The Firefighters Charity and Parkinson’s UK. Ideally I’d love you to share the donation equally between the two but I appreciate that might be a pain. Anything is welcome. I want to raise as much as I can for these two excellent organisations. Simply get in touch to discuss what you’d like to focus on. It can be any topic – work, personal. Anything.

I look forward to hearing from you. Together I believe we can really make a difference – for injured firefighters, for Parkinson’s sufferers, and for you! Get in touch now.
