How confidant are you feeling today? I use ‘today’ advisedly because confidence is not something static; it’s mercurial. Some days we are fully of it, others, not so much… Lack of confidence is frequently offered as a reason why women don’t progress into senior management. Hmm, Quite possibly along with unconscious bias, and very conscious bias!

It’s 100 years since some women got the right to vote. Well, 8.5 million actually. It’s been something of a slow burn but we’re getting there…albeit slowly. Still, 8.5 million women, that’s a cause for celebration! Full gender equality, how long?

Two events happened this week, one very encouraging, one very discouraging. I heard about a company which is committed to gender equality, hosting a breakfast meeting at Davos. It was so encouraging. The second was a Financial Times expose of a ball for misoygnists. Which made me weep.

No Equal Pay (because you are a girl!)

When I was 16 years old I made my first complaint about unequal pay in my Saturday job after discovering the boys got more. The year was 1970. The same year that the Equal Pay act was introduced. In 2018 Carrie Gracie resigns from the BBC because the boys get more pay. How much has changed?
