Yasmin Alibhai-Brown this week won the Columnist of the year Award at the annual Press Awards. Yasmin is huge supporter of equality (we met, briefly, at the launch of the Women’s Equality Party), and will often go where angels fear to tread. She joked: “Look how many boxes I tick… female, Muslim and lefty!“.
Judges described the standard of columnists this year as “phenomenally high”. They praised Alibhai-Brown for her choice of “different and brave” topics for discussion, including British Muslim women wearing the veil, euthanasia and revenge porn.
“She gets straight to the heart of today’s preoccupations. Accessible, thought-provoking and extremely topical.”
