There is masses of research on why we don’t yet have gender equality. Relax, though, I’m not going to repeat it all (although to be honest you can find much of it within the pages of this blog as regular readers know).
There are a myriad of reasons. Some we can’t change, at least not on our own. Some we can challenge by just being aware of them an not accepting the status quo. Some are about our own unconscious biases about what is appropriate and what is not. Below are 4 reasons identified by women themselves as holding them back from pursuing senior roles:
Low ambitions and expectations
Lack of self belief and confidence
A cautious approach to pursuing career opportunities
A less than straightforward career path
