Quotas for Women? In comedy, politics, work, boards, BBC…?

Women make up 50% (give or take a few noughts) of the world’s population.

In no country in the world do women have complete parity and equality with men.

So why is there such an outcry about quotas to ensure that wrong is put right?

We have always needed legislation to push social change and heaven knows we need it now.

I support quotas. Do you?

I do support quotas Jane and am so glad you’ve raised this important issue. Many who are against quotas argue that women should reach the top through merit rather than quotas. As if all the men in top posts only got there through merit! As if who they knew, the school they’d been to or who they played golf with had nothing to do with it.

Thanks Karen. Most common comment against is ‘oh women will get promoted who aren’t any good and we’ll be setting them up to fail… as if all men that get selected are 100% perfect! As is oft said: We’ll know we’ve got full equality when half of all senior posts etc are women and half of them are rubbish… ;>)
