A very small item in The I Paper caught my eye this week. It read:
Prime Minister (of Italy) Matteo Renzi, 39, has been accused by the opposition of appointing female ministers on the basis of their youth and beauty rather than their brains.
Good heavens, I thought, I’m so glad I don’t live in Italy. That would never happen here in the good old UK. Imagine if people got appointed to Government just on basis of…oh, I don’t know, the school they went to, or their gender? That would be terrible.
Oh, hang on….
