The Law of Unintended Consequences and Page Three

The law of unintended consequences = “Akin to Murphy’s law, it is commonly used as a wry or humorous warning against the hubristic belief that humans can fully control the world around them.”  or, we often get the opposite of what we wanted….as I did in this case!

Page three is a notorious feature in a tabloid newspaper in the UK which feature topless young women in it’s paper every day. Most feminists loathe it and it has been the subject of  sustained attempts to change its editorial policy on naked young women. (More on that here – Feminists of all Genders Please Sign Here).

I have been supporting the most recent campaign, spearheaded by actress Lucy Ann Holmes (my interview with her is here). As part of keeping up with that I set up a Google alert for ‘page three’… oh dear.

At first, while the campaign was getting a lot of publicity, I was getting alerted to relevant material, comments made on the campaign and so on, but much more prevalent now in my in box are vacuous stories about page three girl models with pictures!

Somewhat ironic, eh? I have now taken off the alert as I can stand it no more.
