From time to time I am asked by journalists for a quote or a comment on all things women and am usually very happy to oblige. Recently journalist, Jane Murphy, asked me for my thoughts on caring for a feature on allaboutyou.com, the website for Country Living, Good Housekeeping etc. It’s a topic close to my heart, and to Jane’s. It’s not easy being a carer and it’s not easy being cared for…
There are almost seven million carers in the UK today – and that number is growing all the time, according to the Carers Trust. And the main reason for these rising figures? The number of people aged over 85 – the group most likely to need care – is expected to increase by more than 50 per cent to 1.9 million over the next 10 years. It’s estimated that three in five people will become carers at some point in their lives.
