  • 56.6% of all first degrees are achieved by women
  • 80% of all consumer buying decisions are made by women
  • 21.2% of local government chief executives are women
  • 18.7% of all judges are women
  • 9% of police officers ranked as chief constable, deputy chief constable or assistant chief are women
  • 50% of women working in low paid jobs are working beneath their potential

There’s still a lot to be done with regards to the professional advancement of women. Have a look at the sex and power report 2008 published by the equalities commission.

Thanks Veronica -The comment that stuck with most in the report was the one about how far a snail could travel:
• the entire length of the Great Wall of China in 212 years, only slightly longer than the 200 years it will take for women to be equally represented in Parliament.
It’s sobering!
